Dr Sun-Hee (Sunny) Lee

Special Adviser on Gender Issues, Centre for Democratic Institutions,
Australian National University

Sun-Hee (Sunny) Lee, has been seconded from AusAID to the Centre for Democratic Institutions, Australian National University, as a Special Adviser on Gender Issues.

Dr Lee has special interests and work experiences in the gender dimensions of economic empowerment and political leadership.

Dr has held various positions in AusAID, including Director of Gender Thematic Group, Director of Health and population, Director of South Asia Program, and Counsellor (Development Assistance) in Hanoi.

She worked also with the World Bank, WHO Western Pacific Office in Manila, UNFPA in Fiji and the Fiji School of Medicine.

Dr Lee gained MA and PhD degrees in Sociology/Demography from the University of Hawaii/East West Center, followed by a post doctoral training in Brown University. She began her career in teaching and research with ANU in Canberra and has over twenty years of experiences in many aspects of aid policy and programs.

Dr Lee's extensive filed experiences stretch over more than 15 countries in Asia and the Pacific.

While working at Brown University, ANU and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Dr Lee published books and papers relating to migration, women's health, and human resource development in Asia and the Pacific.
