The objective of the aid program is to assist developing countries to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development, in line with Australia's national interest.

There are a number of avenues for Australian businesses to engage with AusAID including;

  • The Enterprise Challenge Fund for the Pacific and South East Asia - Assists the private sector to develop commercially successful ventures in developing countries. Grants ranging from $A100,000 to $A1.5m are available for suitable projects.
  • The Australian Leadership Fellowship Awards - Supports Australian businesses to offer short-term professional placements and study opportunities to suitable candidates from developing countries.
  • TheAustralian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) Program - AYAD places skilled young Australians (18-30) on short-term assignments in the Asia Pacific region. Australian businesses can:
    • Develop an assignment in the Asia Pacific region for a young Australian to work on a development issue
    • Work with a local organisation to develop an assignment
    • Encourage staff to apply for an outstanding career development opportunity
